How Do I Join the UAMS Program For Weight Loss And Metabolic Control?

  1. Come to a free orientation. At this orientation, you will learn about the program, have all your questions answered
You must have an appointment scheduled to attend the orientation.  Call 603-1497 to make an appointment.

  2. Screening Evaluation at UAMS. This includes a review of your medical history, vital signs, and a review of the program, and a discussion of your individual needs.

  3. Coordination with your primary care physician. Some medical issues need to be coordinated with your primary care physician. We need to know how to contact your doctor, and we will give you a form that helps facilitate communication. We will discuss this with you at the screening evaluation, but we encourage you to discuss your weight loss efforts with your physician. If you do not have a physician, we will help you find one.

  4. Pre-Program Testing and Physical Exam:

  1. Physical exam and review of medical history by program physician.

  2. Laboratory Tests - within three months.  If you choose to join the program, you will have lab work completed through the UAMS Program For Weight Loss And Metabolic Control and it will be completed at the outpatient center and then you will have an appointment with a  member of our medical staff prior to starting the program

  3. Electrocardiogram (EKG) - EKG will only be needed if your private physician or weight control physician feels it is necessary.
