UAMS Program for Weight Loss and Metabolic Control
Three Levels of Medical Supervision

Low Medical Supervision

Criteria

Program

  • BMI < 30
  • No Active Medical Conditions
  • No Medications Affected
    by Weight Loss
  • Weekly behavior modification classes
  • Weekly weights
  • No medical supervision (after initial screening)
  • At least 900 cal/day
  • May use dietary supplement with food, or food only
  • Can not be taking anorexiant drugs

Intermediate Medical Supervision

  • BMI < 35
  • Minor Medical Condition, (e.g. Mild hypertension)
  • Some Medications Affected
    by Weight Loss
  • Weekly behavior modification classes
  • Weekly vital signs, nurse visit
  • Monthly medical supervision and relevant blood tests
  • At least 800 cal/day; may be all dietary
  • supplement, but preferably one meal
  • Possible use of anorexiant medications

Full Medical Supervision

  • BMI >35
  • Current Medical Conditions Requiring Medical Supervision
  • Some Medications Affected by Weight Loss
  • Significant Medical History (eg. Diabetes, coronary disease, sleep apnea, multiple medications)
  • Weekly behavior modification classes
  • Weekly vital signs & nurse visit
  • Biweekly medical supervision with labs
